How to make a frame for Shadowbox

At the beginning of the work, you need to decide how you want your future shadow boxing to be seen, how many windows will be in it and what they will be in size, roughly imagine what, how and where it will be placed in it.

For example, you can make a motivating Shadow Box and place life-affirming quotes with appropriate photos and decorative elements in the windows. Such a composition will tune in a positive way and contribute to raising spirit.

When marking and cutting the side walls of the windows, it must be borne in mind that the thickness of the corrugated cardboard is 2-3 mm.

How to make a frame for Shadowbox

Shadowbox (Shadow box). For those who are faced with this concept for the first time, I will tell the essence. The literal translation into Russian of the “box” and “shadow” says little about this product, but it was this name that began to be used in Russian speech. We can say that this is a voluminous interior picture or a photo frame, the notion of "showcase" still came across. In such a frame you can put photographs, memorable little things, beautiful little things - in general, everything that brings you positive emotions and pleasant memories. The idea is that the basis is a niche, often divided into several compartments or consisting of a group of boxes. Each compartment is a whole story, but their common style, color palette, theme unites them.

The basis of such a niche can be a deep photo frame, a box (cardboard or wooden), the old foundations of watches and, of course, you can make the foundation yourself, which we’ll do today :)

A selection of interesting shadowboxes can be viewed in my Pinterest folder

Today I will tell you how to make shadoubox from binding cardboard (1.5-2 mm).

For the base, I took a sheet measuring 30x30 cm. I made a marking of the frame and partitions with a pencil.

A few recommendations. Try to make the compartments not symmetrical. Let both horizontal and vertical be present. Before you start gluing the box, think over the composition, sketch out the details, pick up photos and paper, find their place and size.

I decided on the size and elements. The depth of my Shadowbox will be 2.5 cm. The outer frame will also be 2.5 cm in size. Therefore, I cut strips of 2.5 cm wide from binding cardboard. From plain paper I cut strips of 3 cm for gluing the edges and jumpers of the box (how to glue the box, in detail in the box workshop).

How to choose the depth of the shadowbox? The width should be no less than the widest part that you want to place in it. I want to note that the deeper the shadowbox, the more difficult it is to work with it. The optimal depth is 1 - 1.5 cm.

First, I make the outer and inner walls of the frame (I bend a simple paper in half and glue all the faces with glue-pencil). Then from above I glue stripes of binding cardboard.
Recommendations: observe right angles. All jambs will be visible in the finished product. By the way, such a basis will be interesting for watches.

In the same way, with the help of stripes, I put the internal jumpers on the drawn lines.

Drawers - imitation. I want to make them at the level of the external framework. I cut a square out of cardboard and put it on the same edges. I glue the stripes.

In the process, I decided to add photos and make them larger in size than I had originally intended. Therefore, the simulated boxes have found a new place, and maybe I will not use elements of everything that I had originally planned. In fact, in my work this happens quite often - that's why he is a creative process,)

So, the framework of our Shadowbox is ready. We proceed to gluing. I start by gluing the outer frame. For convenience, I made a pattern of an integral part. I'm going to dock these parts at the corners, so I cut the angle of 45 degrees. I cut 4 parts according to the template. On the dotted lines from the inside, we make creations (folds). If there is no creasing machine, use a metal ruler and a spoke. For details I used thick paper 30x30 cm in size, 2 sheets are needed.

I glue 3 sides with glue "Crystal Moment". I leave the inside for now. I make cuts on it in places where jumpers pass.

In the details that are raised, I cut off the corners by 45 degrees. Since the paper is thick, it is better to make parts not overlapping, but to dock at an angle.

I glue the inner strip. So do with all sides around the perimeter.

I turn to gluing the internal jumpers. To do this, cut out strips of 5 cm wide from thick paper with polka dots 29x30 cm (I needed 2 leaves). I make a fold in half. I make cuts in the jumpers and glue.

Where the compartments are at the height of the frame, I cut at 45 degrees to fit the paper.

The foundation is ready.

I darken all the ribs with a silver stamp pad. I’ll immediately notice that I will process with a pad all the edges of the paper that I will glue. This will add depth and expressiveness, artistry and layering :)

I seal all sections with paper. I also glue the boxes in place. So the foundation is ready. Ahead of us is the creative part.

Fill in all sections. I have 3 compartments for photos. The rest is for beauty :)

I love that there are only many, many. And at different levels. I’m doing something in the back of the compartment, I’m lifting something on the foam pads with double-sided adhesive. Everything goes to work! Well, there’s certainly a place to go for a fantasy. I will specially show you each compartment closely, so that you can see and be inspired)) Two things that are worth observing are color scheme and style.

Materials - everything that you like and eat in the bins of your hamster and in the kitchen. For example, hearts (finished chipboards) with the initials of children (letters - pasta). Immediately set them when painting hearts with acrylic. Used a lot of polymer clay parts made with molds. Who does not like to sculpt - I have them on sale.

Inspiration to you and beautiful works,
